Before Usher, Mario, or Chris Brown, there was a young talented R&B singer out of Texas named Tevin Campbell. He rocked Star Search in the '80s and made music with producer Quincy Jones. You'll likely remember Tevin's hit "Round & Round" which was written by Prince. After a few more hits under this belt, Tevin made his acting debut on TV shows "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and "Moesha." Then he seemed to take a vacation to Bermuda. The Bermuda Triangle, that is!
In July 1999, Campbell, then age 22, was arrested in Van Nuys for soliciting a lewd act from an undercover policeman outside an elementary school. He was ordered to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings and an AIDS awareness class after pleading no contest to the charges. He was also fined $1,080 for the misdemeanor conviction stemming from his arrest. Campbell was ordered to return to court February 7 with proof that he has completed the drug rehabilitation and AIDS education requirements of his sentence. Regarding his sexuality, Campbell states that he's not homosexual or bisexual, he's just experimental. Ajumma says that's fine, but move your act a few blocks from the elementary school already!
So where is he these days? In 2005, Tevin returned to his musical roots with a part as Seedweed J. Stubs on Broadway in the musical, "Hairspray." In 2006 he was in studios laying down tracks with several producers, including Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. Fans still love Tevin and are eagerly awaiting his new album. This message is for Tevin. Tevin, I love you. Don't let negativity stop you from progressing. As long as there is life, you can bounce back. Keep the faith..
Things aren't all bad for the man, here he is with Jessica Alba for goodness sake.
