Sayonara, Akira

Ajumma's been waiting for an update on Leonardo DiCaprio's Akira project, based on the hit manga and anime. Unfortunately, the live-action film seems dead in the water. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (slated to play Tetsuo) confirmed there is no Akira script. Oh well, no movie is better than a bad movie!

On a related topic, writer Ed Moy asks whether Hollywood white-washes Asian roles in remakes. The answer seems to be yes, but I have heard the Japanese explain that animated characters aren't necessarily meant to be Japanese people. As with everything, it's complicated.
